Social Media Buttons on Our Blogs

Hi again everyone.

In my last blog I talked about a few of the different Social Media platforms that are available. What I did not tell you was how I incorporated some of those into my blog. That is what I would like cover now.

To begin with, I was told that to be a successful internet marketer I need to make my presence known on the internet. When a potential client looks me up using the search engines they should be able to find me very easily.

Sign up to Social Media

The first thing to do is sign up to those social media platforms that interest you at the moment; you can always go back and join any others later if you wish to. I already had accounts with Face Book and Twitter and I decided to sign up for LinkedIn as well. I will also join Google Plus soon. Once I become more confident and begin producing videos then You Tube will be a must.

By following the tutorials you will find that signing up for the different Social Media platforms is very easy to do.

Media Buttons

These are the buttons that we place on our blog, when clicked will take the user to the social platform of their choice.  The buttons are provided with the course and can be downloaded. There are eight provided in total: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, You Tube, Pinterest, Google Plus, Skype and an RSS feed button. Save them into a folder such as ‘Partner to Success blog’. Somewhere you can easily find them again.

Short Codes

Short codes are used to link our social media buttons, above, to our blogs. Please don’t panic; we now encounter http coding for the first time. I don’t know yet if we will meet any more throughout this course.

  1. Download the short code that is given to us. Save this code into the same folder where you saved the media buttons.
  2. Open the code into a text editor such as notepad. Work on the newly opened code. As you work on the code save it back onto your computer with a slightly different file name. This way you will always have the original to fall back on if anything should go wrong.
  3. Follow the instructions carefully.
  4. This section consists of copying and pasting urls into the code.
  5. So long as you concentrate and work at your own pace you should be okay.
  6. Save the code into the ‘Partner to Success’ folder but also keep it in the text editor. We will need to use it again shortly.

Connection to blog

Okay we are coming towards the end of this lesson; you’ll be pleased to know. We just need to enter the code onto our blog. This is done through the widgets in our sidebar. Don’t worry if you don’t know what a widget or a sidebar is, when you start using WordPress themes they will soon become known to you. This blog you are reading is written using the WordPress Theme ‘Optimize Press 2’.

  1. Find a text widget
  2. Add it to the sidebar
  3. Copy our code from the text editor
  4. Open the text box on the sidebar and paste the code.
  5. Save

That’s it. When you check out your blog and click on your media buttons you will be sent to your social media page of your choice.

See you in my next blog

Pauline
