Taking Stock Weeks 1 and 2

During my late twenties, I suddenly realized that if I lost my current employment I would not be able to get an interview for a similar position, as all the employers required a minimum number of five GCE’s (General Certificate of Education) before they would even look at you. I had left school at fifteen-years-old without a qualification to my name. So I knew I had to find a way to achieve these qualifications. My solution was to go to night classes. I did this for the next five to six years and ended up with my desired qualifications in: English language, English literature, Mathematics, Computer Studies and Accounting. I was so proud of myself.

I will treat My Online Journey in the same way as I did all those years ago to achieve my goals. At the moment, during this course, I am taking baby steps and being led by the hand. I do need this at present but soon I will be able to increase my speed and travel further along this road. I would like you all to be my companions along the way.

The Road So Far

In just 2 weeks I have learned how to:

  1. Choose a suitable domain name
  2. Register my domain with a web host
  3. Install the WordPress blog system
  4. Prepare my blog for editing
  5. Update the blog settings
  6. Write my first blog – yay
  7. To download a theme and then upload it to my blog
  8. Set up basic settings for my blog using the new theme
  9. Obtain and install a blog header

10. Prepare blog to install plugins

11. Install four plugins

12. Add an ‘About Me Page’

13. Add my new page to a menu bar

I also learned how important it is to back up my blog regularly. I purchased a special plug in to do this and I used it.

Until I put this down on paper I really did not think I had learned so much in just two weeks. Week three I am coming to get you!

    Hi Pauline,

I love the determination and resolve you demonstrated in your story about achieving your GCEs ….that’s incredibly inspirational knowing that you kept it up for over 5 years and despite the temptation you saw it through to the end!

With that level of commitment, the world is your oyster…best of luck on your journey ahead…although I suspect with a work ethic like yours, luck will have little do to with your ultimate success 🙂

Looking forward to hearing more of your voice out there on the Net.

Thank you Con for your kind words. YES I admit that once I know I need to achieve something I go all out to reach that goal. I have struggled the last 18 months getting caught up in all the products and promises that are our there. But I am now focused and hope to stay that way.

I have visited your blog Con. We will all be making this journey together.
      I have left a comment.

Congrats Pauline, this is already a big achievement for the first two weeks.

I fell a bit behind but started this week to catch up. I am quite confident that John’s advice is pointing us in the right direction.

    Keep up the great work,
    Torsten

I agree Torsten. Without John and his advice I would still be floundering around and buying even more products.
